Hard to believe I retired 9 years ago today.

Tempus certainly does fugit. It is hard to believe I retired on June 30, 2004, 9 years ago today.  It seems more like 9 months rather than 9 years.

Tempus Fugit Redux – 7 years since my last workday

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Hard to believe that another year has flown by since my last workday.  My official retirement date is June 30; however, I had time I had to use before I retired.

I am enjoying my retirement immensely.  My main project of reviewing all the paper / stuff I gathered over the years, and discarding most of it has been neglected.  I am OK with the lack of progress because the reasons for the neglect are I go out every day, and am enjoying myself so much every day.

One goal I have finally made great progress on is loosing substantial weight.  Since November 29, 2009, I have lost 143 pounds.  I weigh about 100 pounds less than I did on my last workday 7 years ago.  Of course, I am ecstatic with this loss.  When I reach the 150 pounds lost goal, I will evaluate whether I should continue loosing, or start a permanent maintenance mode.

During my 8th year of retirement, I will concentrate on reviewing all the “stuff” I accumulated over the years, and hopefully shred / discard most of it.

The other area I have to pay attention to is my current spending like the proverbial drunken sailer on electronic gadgets. I must significantly reduce my current spending for the latest electronic toys.

Overall, I have been blessed with a quality, enjoyable retirement.

What a hot one today!

It was over 100F today, and very humid. The radio news was advising the elderly to stay in. Since I did not look at the date of birth on my license, I did not realize I am elderly ;-), and ventured out for the day. Must admit I felt, and minded the oppressive heat, but overall was OK.

My last workday was 6 years ago today, still enjoying my retirement immensely

Tempus Fugit – It is hard to believe six years have passed since my last workday, it seems like only months, not years.  Retirement has been great for me.  When I retired, I was a bit concerned I may be bored due to my “workaholic” approach toward my job.  Boy was I wrong, I am enjoying retirement so much, I wonder how I found the time to work. 😉  I go out every day, love movies, tech meetings, meeting with friends still working, and just sitting on a park bench on a nice, sunny day while listening to a John Grisham novel on my Sansa MP3 player.

I had all these grandiose projects I was going to accomplish in retirement since I would have all the additional time to fill each day.   I was going to review every piece of paper / gadget I have accumulated over my lifetime, scan the important documents, and discard / shred 95%+ of them.  Although I have had spurts of activity toward this goal,  I basically haven’t really started.  I am OK with this lack of progress because I am enjoying myself so much going out everyday.  I will eventually get to the project, but as long as I continue to enjoy going out every day, the project can wait.

Another important retirement goal was loosing weight.  Unfortunately, for the first 5 1/2 years I gained weight  but in the last 6 1/2 months I have lost 69 pounds, and weigh 25 pounds less today than six years ago.

A retirement goal that I am just starting to make progress on is the time I go to bed, and of course, get up.   I am basically a night owl, and for awhile, I was getting to bed at the time I used to get up when I was working.   I am now getting to bed a few hours earlier (2:30 – 3:30 am ;-)), and getting up, and out for the day earlier.  I want to get to bed even earlier, and out earlier, but I am at least making some progress.

Overall, my retirement has been great, and am very pleased.  I will eventually get to the “review every document” project, but am no longer in any rush.

Hit the 50 pound weight loss mark today, ecstatic!

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I finally hit the 50 pound weight loss target this morning. I am ecstatic about the loss; however, it is only about 1/3 of the weight I want to loose. I realize that I could be under the 50 pound loss target tomorrow due to fluid fluctuation. Within a few days, the over 50 pounds loss will be standard, and I can set my focus on the next major goal of 75 pounds lost.

One of my retirement goals was to loose weight.   Unfortunately, I gained 45 pounds in retirement, and am finally loosing weight.  I have lost the 45 pounds I gained during retirement, and weigh 5 pounds less than on my first non-workday.
