“Furry Vengeance” is cute, somewhat silly, but could be entertaining for kids

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

I had seen all the mainstream movies I had any interest in, and felt like a  a movie.  I do like Brendan Fraser, so $8.50 (senior rate is great) was transferred to the Regal Fenway, and I attended an early evening show.  Again, my favorite disclaimer – I am not the target demographic for this movie.

I must admit the movie was entertaining at times, and there were a few laughs.  Although somewhat silly from an adult perspective, this movie is definitely targeted for children.  I attended an evening show so only a few children were in attendance, and they seemed to enjoy the movie quite a bit.  The time passed quickly,  the animal characters were funny, and the animal physical forms /  CGI were very well done.  The raccoon must have graduated from the animal equivalent of Harvard. ;-)  I alway like Ken Jeong in movies, and his role in Furry Vengeance is quite funny.

If you wish to attend a general audience movie with your children, definitely take them to see Furry Vengeance.  I am sure it will not be your favorite movie, but it may be your child’s favorite movie for at least a few weeks.

“Clash of the Titans: in 3D – enjoyable, great CGI, overall B+

Saw “Clash of the Titans: in 3D” at the Regal Fenway after a nice pizza at The Upper Crust.  Overall, I liked the movie.  I was impressed with the CGI, definitely top notch.   The monsters looked liked you would expect monsters to look, not some poor attempt like in some other movies.  The story itself was fine, but I was a bit disappointed, hence the B+, not A rating.  Overall, the acting was fine as well, although a bit  too intense at times for my taste.  The time did pass quickly, and most of the audience seemed to be fine with the movie overall.  Since I did not see the 2D version, I can only speculate that the 3D version did add quite a bit to the overall enjoyment of this movie.  I do recommend this movie, and also recommend the 3D version unless you have a problem in general with 3D  movies of any type.

Avatar: 3D – technically great, story ok

Saw Avatar: 3D at the Regal Fenway tonight.  The quality of animation, 3D, and overall CGI were all phenomenal.  From a technical pov, this is one of the best movies made.  Storyline is another matter at least for me.  I am tired of the usual corporate greed theme that seems to permeate movies lately.  I know it is “in” to attack corporations, but like anything else, too much gets sickening after awhile.   The bonding  between the two main characters is fine, just let’s stop with all the constant corporation bashing.  Although I wasn’t crazy about the storyline, I still recommend this movie based on the technical aspects you will see.  I can not recall a movie with better animation,  CGI, or 3D.  Avatar is a must see if you have any interest in cinema technology, and definitely see it in 3D.
