After the Longhorn, the rain cancelled my sitting out plans like it was delaying the game up the street at Fenway. My movie choices were limited, I decided on “Nanny McPhee Returns” since I had enjoyed the original movie. Fortunately, “Nanny McPhee Returns” is a children’s movie an adult can enjoy; however, I did enjoy the original movie more.
The movie was funny, enjoyable, with fine performances by all the stars particularly Emma Thompson. See this movie with your kids, or see it with adults. Either way, you should enjoy this movie.

Felt like a second movie since I was downtown so I saw “Vampires Suck” while I was at the Boston Common. I had seen the Twilight vampire movies so I could appreciate this parody comedy a bit more than someone who had not seen the Twilight series. The movie was funny at times, and the audience seemed to enjoy it. The performances were fine, or as fine as the performances can be in a parody. Although there were some good laughs, I was glad the movie ended when it did since it was getting a bit stale.
If you enjoy parodies, and have seen the Twilight series, you probably would enjoy “Vampires Suck”.

Saw “Animal Kingdom” at the Boston Common tonight. Overall, this movie is just OK. The story is about an Australian dysfunctional family whose family business is crime including murdering police officers. The story was relatively interesting although it was definitely getting stale at the end.
If you like Australian movies, and / or stories about mixed up families, you may enjoy this movie.

Went to see “The Switch” because I wanted to be sure I left the Fenway area before the Sox game got out, and traffic was a nightmare for the bus. I am not a fan of Jennifer Aniston, or Jason Bateman; however, I did enjoy them both in this movie. The movie is a rather quirky romantic comedy with a different twist to the storyline, and lots of laughs. Kudos to the young actor who played Sebastian.
I do recommend this movie, and did enjoy it more than I expected. Guys, it is not really a chick flick so don’t worry about seeing this with your significant other.

Hit the 90 pounds weight loss target. Needless to say, I am ecstatic about the loss, but again, can not loose focus since I must loose another 60 pounds or so. I will have a dessert as a reward within the next week.
My usual caveat applies – due to normal weight / fluid fluctuations, I may be under 90 pounds lost for a few days, but will soon be exceeding 90 lost permanently.

My second movie tonight was “Farewell”, a cold war espionage thriller in French with English subtitles. This movie is excellent. Great storyline, top notch performances, minimum CGI, great characters, and based on a true story although like all movies you do not know the percentage of truth vs. movie enhancements.
If you like an excellent espionage movie, don’t miss this.

Visited a friend this afternoon, and felt like a movie on the way home. Stopped at the Coolidge, and saw “Life During Wartime” in the 14 seat screening room.
Overall, the movie was at best OK. It was a dark, weird comedy about a dysfunctional family that was heavy on dark, and weird, but very light on the comedy. I did not recognize any of the actors, but they all gave fine performances.
If you enjoy an offbeat, dark comedy, check this out. If not, take a pass on this movie.

My mid-month weigh-in revealed a loss of 84 pounds since November 29, 2009. I am ecstatic with this loss, and am determined to maintain focus until my ultimate goal of loosing a minimum of 150 pounds is attained. So far, eliminating desserts, in-between meal snacks, candy / popcorn at movies, and limiting my evening snack to an apple are still working. When, and if additional changes are necessary to maintain my desired weight loss, I am determined to implement them as well.

Felt like a movie after eating at the Longhorn. I had seen most movies so my choice was limited. I settled on “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”. I am definitely not the target audience for this movie, and lately I have found the star to be more annoying than talented. I have not read the graphic novel which inspired this movie.
The movie was definitely not for me. I was bored, and thought the movie was utterly ridiculous. Most of the audience was at least four generations younger, and they seemed to enjoy it. That certainly is more important than a senior not enjoying the movie.
