Although I find Steve Carell more annoying than funny at times, I saw “Dinner For Schmucks” at the Regal Fenway . I did enjoy the movie – a lot of laughs, and many funny scenes. Still not a fan of Steve Carell, but he gave a fine performance in this movie.
The movie is entertaining throughout, with a humorous storyline, solid performances, and a surprisingly happy ending,
If you want a good laugh for two hours, see this movie.
Zac Efron is maturing into a fine actor. He is no longer just a handsome face to ensure the tweens shriek, but he is also developing top notch acting skills. His performance in “Charlie St. Cloud” was very good bordering on excellent.
Overall, “Charlie St. Cloud” is a very good movie. The story is interesting, the performances fine, and the nautical scenes delightful. Although there is some CGI, the movie depends on storyline, and fine performances to maintain your interest.
If you like a good story, and two hours well spent, see this movie.
I usually would have seen “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” when it was released, but my recent brush with a stomach virus stopped that plan quickly, and quite emphatically. I did finally see it today at the Boston Common. I am a fan of Nicholas Cage, and usually enjoy his movies quite a bit. Nicholas lived up to my excellent expectations, and Alfred Molina was excellent as well.
The movie is entertaining, the CGI exceptional, and I loved the old Rolls Royce. If you like an entertaining, good vs evil fantasy, put this one on your list.
Saw “The Girl Who Played with Fire” at the Boston Common. I had seen mixed reviews for this movie so I did not know whether I purchased a ticket for a gem, or a dud. I did not realize this movie was a sequel to “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” until the movie started. Since this was a well made sequel to a movie I enjoyed, it was closer to a gem than a dud.
The movie is in Swedish with English subtitles. I don’t mind subtitles as long as the movie is well made which this movie definitely is. Although far fetched at times, the storyline is interesting, suspenseful, and fast paced with plenty of action. The movie relies on storyline, character development, and plot with very little CGI. It does run over two hours, but the time passes quickly, and you won’t be bored. All the characters gave fine performances as best as you can ascertain with a subtitled movie.
If you enjoyed the original, or just like an action packed, suspenseful movie, put this on your “to see” list.
Ate at Longhorn, and then saw “Ramona and Beezus” next door at the Regal Fenway. I am far removed from the target audience for this movie; however, I did enjoy it. The movie has a definite “feel good” theme, is entertaining, a bit humorous at times, and has the requisite feel good ending. All the performances were fine with special kudos for the girl who plays Ramona.
If your daughter wants to see this movie, by all means let her. In fact, go with her, you may enjoy it as well.
Since I was prevented from going out for the last few weeks due to a stomach virus, I took advantage of being downtown, and saw a second movie, “The Kids Are All Right”. The previews had looked good, and I am a fan of Annette Bening. The movie has a rather unique storyline, is funny, entertaining with quite a serious / emotional ending. Annette, and all the other stars gave excellent performances. The movie maintained my interest throughout, the time passed quickly, and it is enjoyable to see a movie that does not depend on CGI for its success.
If you like entertaining stories with a unique slant, see this movie.
Although still recovering from a stomach virus, I ventured downtown, and saw “Salt” at the Boston Common. Overall, the movie is excellent, and Angelina is – well Angelina, very fine like good wine. In fact, this is one of Angelina’s best performances.
As expected from the previews, there’s plenty of action throughout the movie, and the CGI is absolutely top notch. The action scenes are very well executed, and as realistic as such scenes can be portrayed.
If you like action movies, and / or Angelina. (who doesn’t 
), see this movie.
Have not been to a movie in over week due to a stomach virus. I did venture downtown today, and saw “Inception” in IMAX at the Boston Common. I like Leonardo, and he gave his usual fine performance as did all the stars. The CGI, and special effects were top notch. Again, I have the mixed comment about the movie was great for it’s genre, but it is not my genre. I like SciFi if it involves space aliens, but most earth centric themes are not my cup of tea with the notable exception of “The Matrix” which I loved.
Even with the fine performances, and CGI, the movie left me wanting. I found myself checking my watch constantly although some of those checks may have been due to my somewhat still queazy stomach.
If you like this genre, you probably will love this movie since it is very well made, and the special effects are excellent. If not, roll the dice.
Had my mid-month weigh-in today, and I have lost 85* pounds since November 29, 2009. As great as the loss is, I still have a minimum of 65 pounds more to go, so I can not loose focus, and must be faithful to my new eating behaviors. You probably noticed the asterisk beside the 85. I was hovering around 75 pounds lost, and anticipated I would be somewhere in the 75 to 78 pounds lost range for the mid-month weigh-in. A few days ago, I got some kind of bug, and have been eating very little, and eliminating a lot of fluid etc. with “the runs”. When my appetite returns, and I feel comfortable being more than 20 feet from a commode (sounds so much nicer than toilet), I will probably gain back a few pounds. Hopefully, I will stay above the 80 pounds lost target when I resume my normal activity. I would have preferred reaching 85 pounds lost in a few more weeks via normal means, but maybe there is a slight silver lining to the nuisance situation I have experienced the last few days.
Saw “Predator” at the Regal tonight. I am a fan of Adrien Brody, and Laurence Fishburne. Both actors, along with Topher Grace, gave fine performances, and the CGI was very good. In spite of these positive comments, the movie left me flat. Even with all the action, blood, guts, solid CGI on the screen, I found I was bored for a good part of the movie, and was checking my watch regularly. In the interest of full disclosure, this genre is one of my least favorites, and “Predators” did nothing to increase this genre’s status, or personal ranking.
If you are a fan of this genre, or the stars, you probably will enjoy “Predator”. If not, it’s a coin toss.
