“Darkest Hour 3D” is good

“Darkest Hour 3D”

3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Seen previews, looked decent, plus only movie I had not seen.
Overall, movie was good for its genre, better than reviews.  Remember, reviews have been quite poor.
Storyline fine for this genre, performances fine, CGI impressive, and 3D an enhancement, not a detraction although not sure why 3D was included.
Don’t see any Oscars in the future for this movie, but overall I enjoyed more than expected.
If into this genre, give it a view.

“Tinker Tailor Sailor Spy”

4 out of 5 stars.

Previews looked good, and movie was very good.

Story was very interesting although a bit difficult to follow at times.

Performances were all fine, minimal CGI, time passed quicky and movie was suspenseful throughout.

Recommended if you like interesting spy movies.

“War Horse”

5 out of 5 stars.

Have high expectations for Speiberg movies, and this movie did not disappoint.
Story was very interesting, CGI excellent, performances fine, and time passed quickly for this relatively long movie.
As much as I enjoyed it, wish it was about 20 minutes shorter.
Cinematography is exquisite.
Ending is fantastic.
Recommended, if you like a good story, see this movie.

“The Artist” is good.

“The Artist”

3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Silent movie about transition from silent movies to talkies.
Remember silent movies as a kid, watching them on TV.
Performances were fine, story very interesting, and no spoken words until the end.
If you have never seen a silent movie, take this in to experience a movie without sound, massive special effects, or color.

“The Adventures of TinTin 3D”

5 out of 5 stars.

Although a kids movies, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
Story was very interesting, animation quality incredible, voice casting top notch, and time flew.
Directed by Speilberg.
Animation quality is best I have seen in a long, long time; better than Pixar.
Quality of the 3D was top notch as well, a nice enhancement.
See this movie regardless of your age.

“Shame” is a bit graphic, but good

“Shame”

3 out of 5 stars.

Very dark, very intense, very graphic movie about dysfunctional brother / sister.

Story was interesting, CGI minimal, set in NYC, time passed quickly.

Definitely don’t take your kids.

If you are a fan of film noir, and don’t mind occassional nudity, see this movie.

“The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” is very good.

“The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”

4 out of 5 stars.

Had seen the original Swedish version, and enjoyed it immensely.

Although a bit long, movie is very good.

Lots of intrigue, fine performances, minimum but effective CGI, and time did oas quickly.

I cannot say I prefer one version over the other, both are very good.

“Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” is OK

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

“Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked”

2 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Enjoyed prior movie so gave this sequel a whirl.
I realize I am not target audience, but for me, movie dragged for the most part.
Technically, animation was top notch, voice casting was fine, and scenery background was quite nice.
Kids in audience seemed to enjoy which is important.

“Young Adult” is good

“Young Adult”

3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Not realky the target audience, but movie was good.
Performances were fine, time passed very quickly, and CGI minimal.
Story was a bit on the dark side, intense, but definitely maintained interest.
If you don’t mind a few intense, uncomfortable scenes, see this movie.

“Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” is good

Friday, December 16th, 2011

“Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”

3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Enjoyed first movie, and was looking forward to this sequel.
Am a fan of Robert Downey Jr.
Robert’s performance was excellent as I expected, and Noomi Rapace was as well (must be week for Dragon Tattoo stars).
Storyline was interesting although I felt it dragged a bit at times.
CGI top notch, spurts of humor for variety, and time passed OK.
Recommended.
