“Footloose” is OK

Friday, September 30th, 2011

“Footloose”

3 out of 5 stars.

Preview of “Footloose” tonight.
Remember orignal with a young Kevin Bacon.
Overall, movie was OK.
Full disclosure – I am not the target audiencev for this movie.
Although born / raised in Boston, too much redneck /  church going negative stereotyping for my taste.
The “smartass” from Boston is a bit too much “smartass”.
Again, I am not the target audience, and target audience seemed to enjoy.

“Dolphin Tale 3D” is good

“Dolphin Tale 3D”

3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Not on my list of “to see” movies, but it was raining when I left the restaurant next door.
3D was an enhancement, not a detraction.
Like Harry, a little sour on Morgan lately.
Overall movie was better than I expected.
Story was interesting, dolphins facinating, time passed quickly, and performances appropriate for target audience.
Harry did a real nice job.
See it with your children, you won’t be bored.

“Abduction” is better than I expected.

“Abduction”

3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Had seen previews, and was not overly impressed plus reviews were mostly negative.
Only movie playing I had not seen.
Started off like typical high school teen movie.
After 20 minutes or so, action picked up, storyline transformed into action genre.
After transformation, interesting story, fine performances for genre, plenty of action, and time passed OK.
Nice when movie exceeds expectations.
If you like action movies, give this a try.

“Money Ball” is exceptional

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

“Money Ball”

5 out of 5 stars.

Exceptional performace by Brad Pitt in an overall excellent movie.
Storyline was very interesting, all other performances were excellent, time flew for a 2+ hour movie.
Even non-baseball fans should enjoy this movie.
Even though the movie is about the Oakland A’s, some of final scenes are Fenway Park which is two blocks up the street fom the theater I saw the movie.
If you like a movie that relies on storyline, and acting vs. CGI, see this movie.

“Killer Elite” is very good

“Killer Elite”

4 out of 5 stars.

Lots of action, and lots of gore.  If you like movies with both, you will enjoy this movie.
Storyline is very interesting, performances fine for this genre, and time flew.
CGI, and special efects top notch.
Different ending for this genre.
Recommended if you are into this genre, or looking for an action movie albeit with lots of gore.

“Farmageddon” is interesting.

“Farmageddon”

3 out of 5 stars.

Had a pass for a sneak preview, but I always arrive right before start time with a backup movie in case the preview is full.  It was full, and “Farmageddon” was the backup movie.
Movie is interesting.
Like most documentaries, totally one-sided, but did raise some interesting ideas / questions.
I would certainly want to hear the other side before making a decision on the points made since there is always two sides to a story which frequently conflict.
Technically, the documentary was well made – good lighting, solid editing, interesting storyline again subject to the typical one-sided slant.

“Lion King 3D” is excellent

Monday, September 19th, 2011

“Lion King 3D”

4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Story was excellent, one of the Disney classics.
Kids in audience seemed to enjoy quite a bit.
Animation, and 3D showed their age, but did not distract from the overall excellence of the movie.
Time flew even though I knew the storyline, and had seen the Broadway show.
If you take your children to see this, which I recommend, you will enjoy the movie as well.

“I Don’t Know How She Does It” is OK

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

“I Don’t Know How She Does It”

2 1/2 out of 5 stars.

I am definitely not the target audience for this movie, but only movie I had not seen.
Overall, movie was OK.
Although a bit overboard at times with the messsage, the movie was enjoyable at other times even for a guy.
It was filmed in Boston which helped maintain my interest.
The XO line is one of the best I have heard in a long time.

“Straw Dogs” is OK

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

“Straw Dogs”

2 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Previews looked OK not great.
Overall, the movie is OK.
Movie is not bad, just not my cup of tea.
Performances were fine although it was a bit overboard on redneck stereotyping.
Storyline sometimes interesting, sometimes dragged, time pased relatively quickly.

“Drive” is excellent

Friday, September 16th, 2011

“Drive”

5 out of 5 stars.

Previews looked good, lots of fast driving scenes.
Movie overall is excellent.
Lots of action, great driving scenes, time flew, fine performances, plenty of gore. and a plethora of human emotions.
I am a fan of Ryan Gosling, and he gave his usual top notch performance.
As most of Ryan’s movies are, “Drive” is a bit weird, strange, definitely dark, and one of the best movies you will see this year.
Highly Recommended.
