“Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D”

5 out of 5 stars

Enjoyed prior Transformer movies.
CGI was incredible.
Performances, for this genre, were fine
Storyline was very interesting, maintained interest throughout.
3D was an enhancement not a distraction.
A plethora of continuous action scenes.
Love the cars as expected from a huge fan of performance cars.
Highly recommended.

Solid cast, top notch performances, Cameron is excellent.
Borders on raunchy a few times, but never crosses the line.

“Cars 2 3D”

4 out of 5 stars

Excellent animation
Excellent voice casting.
Very good storyline.
3D top notch, but not overbearing.
Time passed quickly.
Children in audience seemed to enjoy.
Am a fan of fast cars, even animated ones.
Not quite as good as original, but a worthy sequel.
Recomended

“Mr Potter’s Penguins”

4 out of 5 stars.

Fan of Jim Carrey al least when he has a comedy role, not too fond of his serious roles.
Penguins are fun animals.
Movie is very entertaining.
Jim Carrey was excellent.
Penguins, both real, and CGI, were top notch, and definitely added to the fun factor for this movie.
Target audience for this movie is children, and the children in the audience seemed to like the movie immensely.
Recommended if you are a fan of Jim Carrey, or if your children want to see it, go with them.

“Green Lantern 3D”

4 out of 5 stars

Not familiar with source comic book material, but previews looked good.
I like Ryan Reynolds.
3D was a nice enhancement, not a burden.
Special effects were exceptional, story very interesting, performances were fine, time passed quickly, and Ryan Reynolds makes for an offbeat, but excellent super hero.
If you like this genre at all, see this movie.

Tempus Fugit Redux – 7 years since my last workday

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Hard to believe that another year has flown by since my last workday.  My official retirement date is June 30; however, I had time I had to use before I retired.

I am enjoying my retirement immensely.  My main project of reviewing all the paper / stuff I gathered over the years, and discarding most of it has been neglected.  I am OK with the lack of progress because the reasons for the neglect are I go out every day, and am enjoying myself so much every day.

One goal I have finally made great progress on is loosing substantial weight.  Since November 29, 2009, I have lost 143 pounds.  I weigh about 100 pounds less than I did on my last workday 7 years ago.  Of course, I am ecstatic with this loss.  When I reach the 150 pounds lost goal, I will evaluate whether I should continue loosing, or start a permanent maintenance mode.

During my 8th year of retirement, I will concentrate on reviewing all the “stuff” I accumulated over the years, and hopefully shred / discard most of it.

The other area I have to pay attention to is my current spending like the proverbial drunken sailer on electronic gadgets. I must significantly reduce my current spending for the latest electronic toys.

Overall, I have been blessed with a quality, enjoyable retirement.

Lost another 2 pounds for a total of 143 pounds

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

My mid-month weigh-in revealed another 2 pounds shed for a total of 143 pounds lost since November 29, 2009.
I am ecstatic with the weight loss, and although the rate of loss has slowed, surprised I am still loosing since I still eat my favorite meals at my favorite restaurants.  I do watch what I eat outside of my combined lunch / dinner.

I am only 7 pounds away from my initial weight loss goal of 150 pounds.  When I reach that major milestone, I will evaluate whether I should continue loosing, or start a permanent maintenance mode.

“The Tree of Life” not my cup of tea

“The Tree of Life”

2 out of 5 stars

All star cast, but movie not for me.
Story boring, and not entertaining.
Some of the images were nice, performances were OK, but I go to movies to be entertained.  This movie did not entertain, and entertainment was probably not its goal.
We get it, life is not a bowl of cherries, and not always fair.

“Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer” is prety good for its genre

Friday, June 10th, 2011

“Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer”

3 1/2 out of 5 stars

Definitely not the target audience for this movie, but only movie playing at Regal that I had not seen.
Attended evening showing so not that may children there.  Few that were there seemed to enjoy movie.
Story was enjoyable, fine family entertainment / fun.
If your kids want to see this movie, go with them, you may enjoy it.

“Super 8 (IMAX)”

3 1/2 out of 5 stars

Previews looked good.
Not my favorite genre.
Movie was good, not great.
Solid performances, OK storyline, very good CGI, and time passed quickly.
IMAX was nice enhancement.
Recommended if you like this genre.
